Prayer: Part 2
We all know that prayer is simply communication with God. It is how we develop a relationship with him. Though we are instructed to pray, we should pray because we want to develop a closer relationship with him.
Now much of our prayers are in supplication. So what is supplication? Supplication is form of prayer where a person asks God to provide something for themselves or for someone else. Basically, it is when we acknowledge we have the inability to get or provide what we ask for for ourselves. When we pray we are acknowledging to God that we solely rely and depend on him to meet our needs and the needs of the person or people we are praying for. 1 Timothy 2:1 says, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.”
Not only should we pray to make supplications but to keep us from entering in to temptation or sin. Jesus tells us in Matthew 26:41, "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Our flesh is weak and subject to sin. So that is why we should be praying at all times. If we are not praying we are open to the enemy’s attacks and temptations. Like the saying goes, “You need to be prayed up.”
Now sometimes it can be difficult to pray. Sometimes life struggles, demands, and challenges can overwhelm us so much that we don’t even know what to pray for or what to say. But that is when the Holy Spirit kicks in.
The Holy Spirit will guide us and help us in those moments of prayer when we don’t know what to say. Romans 8:26-27, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.”
Today I encourage you to make your requests known before God through prayer. And remember in those days when you don’t what to pray for or what to say-the Holy Spirit is ready and able to intercede on your behalf! Always stay prayed up!!!!
Today’s Scripture: “Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and listen to the cry of my supplications.” Psalm 86: 6
