But My Sheep Hear My Voice
How many times have you heard people say this ...“God told me…God said….” It seems like everything they do God told them to do it. But did God really tell them to do it? Did God they really hear from God?
Many people claim they heard God's voice but in reality they did not. Every voice that we hear in our ear is not from God. So how do we know what is of God and what is not? Simple. Jesus says in John 10:27, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
If you are a believer and follower of Christ then you are one of his sheep. And as one of his sheep you know when he is talking to you. John 8:47 says, “Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
To hear from God…you must be of God. So anyone who claims they heard from God but do not have a relationship with God did not hear from him. So be careful if someone comes to you and claims they have a Word from the Lord but you know for a fact they don’t have a relationship with God.
Any one of God has the Holy Spirit operating in them. And that is the way God designed for his people to hear from him. Jesus tells us this in John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
To hear a Word from the Lord you must be operating and flowing in the Holy Spirit. God will not speak a Word to us if we are in our flesh. So if you have to constantly questioning if what you are hearing is from God, you need to ask yourself am I in a position to hear from God? You cannot hear from God, if you are in your flesh.
God is a Spirit. And when he talks to us he talks to us in the Spirit. You cannot and will not hear a Word from God in your flesh. We know that our flesh wars against our Spirit man. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:14, “But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.”
So discern and judge everything every voice you hear in your ear. And learn to hear from God for yourself. Many people claim they are prophets and are led by God. But just because they say they are does not mean they really are.
A person that claims to be operating and speaking from the Holy Spirit should never say something that contradicts the Word of God. 1 Corinthians 12:3 says, "Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit."
So always hear from the Lord for yourself. God always confirms his Word to us when he speaks something to us-even if it is directly or through someone else. Remember we are Jesus’ sheep and we know his voice. Isaiah 30:21 says, "Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, "This is the way you should go," whether to the right or to the left.”
Today I encourage you to listen for God’s voice. He is always speaking but many times we don’t hear him because we are operating in the flesh. The more we operate in the Holy Spirit the more we will able to hear from him. Remember his sheep hear his voice!
Today’s Scripture: “His sheep follow him because they know his voice.” John 10:4
