We all have issues, problems or as the saying goes “be going through some thangs”! We all have asked for advice or been given advice about our problems. And some of us are always the one giving it out. But advice is like medicine. When you take good advice some of the symptoms of your problems will go away and you will start to feel better. On the contrary, if you take bad advice, like bad medicine, it will make the symptoms worse and make you sicker.

So what the does, the Word say about giving bad advice? King Solomon tells us in Proverbs 19:20, “Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.” Taking good advice from wise counsel can make us wise. And the Word tells us to get the advice we can. So yes, we all need advice from time to time.

But the key to giving or receiving advice is getting confirmation from God. We shouldn’t give or accept advice if it isn’t Holy Spirit led. Most of time when people give advice it comes from their personal opinion and is based on their emotions. And that’s not good because you don’t know what type of spirit they are giving it from.
You can think a person is giving you good advice, but in truth, it's bad advice and the person that is giving to you knows it’s bad. And they know if you take it will make your problems worse. Proverbs 12:5 says, “The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.” Always discern a person’s spirit before you ask or accept advice from them.

Now on the other hand, if a person is Holy Spirit led and gives you advice, listen to it carefully. Sometimes we might not like or want to hear the advice we haven given but in the end the truth they are speaking will help us. Proverbs 15:31 says, “If you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise.”

Today I encourage you to give and seek good, sound advice. If you are giving advice ask the Holy Spirit to guide on what to say. And if you are seeking or receiving it make sure the person who is giving it is filed with the Holy Spirit. Don’t give or take advice when you are in your flesh and feelings. Because you see there is a difference between giving your opinion and giving advice. Remember advice is like medicine, taken properly it will make you feel better….take bad advice…and you will become you sicker.
Today’s Scripture: “Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don't ignore it.” Proverbs 8:33
