Sleep in Peace
We have all had those sleepless nights where the pain, hurt, sadness, anger, and frustration of our problems have kept us up all night tossing and turning. Like Jobs says in 7:13, “I lie down and try to rest; I look for relief from my pain."
The pain feels unbearable. Tears fall down like rain drops. In Psalm 69:3 David says “I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.” You just want peace; you just want to rest-to go to sleep. You just pray to Lord to give you any type of comfort, any type of relief from your pain.
The enemy likes to keep us up at night, tormenting us with negative thoughts, images. Replaying our problems in our head over and over again. Keep us in bondage of fear that things will never change, never forget better. But the Devil is a lie! In Proverbs 3:24, the Lord says “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet."
Only God can give us peace and rest in our sleepless nights. Like David says in Psalms 4:8, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.” Even in the midst of pain, heartbreaks, sadness, frustrations, physical illnesses, God can give us peace. He can give us rest-give us peaceful sleep. So let God deal with your problems. Why stay up worrying about something you cannot change? Trust God and allow him to give you rest and sweet sleep! Psalms 3:5 says, "I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me."
The Lord feels our pain, he feels our every hurt. His heart breaks to see his children hurting. We all have those days where we the burden of our pain gets to heavy bear. But Jesus tells us in Matthews 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
So in those sleepless nights-cast your burdens upon the Lord because he cares for you. Staying up worrying and frustrating yourself about a problem you can’t solve will do nothing but cause you stress and prolong the pain.
Like David tells us in Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Today I encourage you to stop staying up at night at letting your problems get you down! Pray to the Lord and ask him to give you sweet sleep. We have all been up past the midnight hour drowning in our sorrows, but nothing changes when we do that. So lie down and let Lord give you peaceful sleep! But I promise you Joy will come in the morning!
Today’s Scripture: “At this, I woke up and looked around. My sleep had been very sweet.” Jeremiah 31:26
