Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013
Goodbye 2012…Hello 2013…ready for everything you have instore for me. It’s the last day of the year. The day that we sit and reflect over everything that happened in the past year. The day we make New Year’s Resolutions and vow that we will keep them all year long.
For me 2012 was year of transitions…cuts….a year filled with pain and sorrow yet it had its joyful moments in between. Every year on this day we decree and declare that new year in will be our year…our season…our time. We vow to make all this vast changes in our lives. But by February of the next year we are still doing the same things we did the last year. Still dealing with the same people….the same situations.
And why does that happen? Simply because we carry the past of the last year into the new one. The Word tells us in Isaiah 43:18, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” In 2013 we need to stop dwelling on things that happened in 2012.
We can’t back and relive a single moment in our lives. We can’t go back and change a thing. Everything that happened this year happened for a purpose…the good…the bad….it all work together for our good. So going in 2013, we can’t focus on the things that happened in 2012. Paul tells in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “the old has gone, the new has come.”
The old has gone….2012 is gone and we will never see it again. But if it is God’s will some of us will see 2013….a new year. And just like each day brings its own issues…situations…problems…lessons…so does each year.
Ecclesiastes 3 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” For me 2012 was a time to plant but in 2013 I will uproot. In 2012 I had to tear down some things but in 2013 I will rebuild. In 2012 I wept a lot but in 2012 I will laugh a lot. In 2012 it was time for me to mourn but in 2013 I will dance. In 2012 it was time for me to keep silent but in 2013 I will speak. 2012 was a year filled with war but 2013 will be filled with peace.
So I say goodbye 2012 and hello 2013. I forget the former things and I do not dwell on the past. I am stepping in 2013 with a clean heart, a renewed mind and right spirit within in me. So Today I let it go and I encourage you let it go too. So if takes you to listen to Brian McKnight “One Last Cry” and make that one last cry then do it. Because at 12:00 a.m. the old has passed and the new has come.
Today I encourage you to let go of everything that happened in 2012. For some people that may mean letting go of some people, some places, and some things. You can make all the New Year Resolutions you want but if you are still bringing the old into the new then don’t expect any of your resolutions to come true. Remember there is a time for everything. So what time will 2013 be for you?
