The Spirit of Fear
Heart palpitations…panic attacks…queasiness...nervousness…heavy breathing. Have you ever felt those symptoms? Chances are you have and what you were experiencing was fear. The dictionary defines fear as a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc.,whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
We all have experienced fear. But the feeling of fear doesn’t come from God. In fact, 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” God doesn’t want us to fear anything but him.
The Spirit of Fear can overwhelm us. It can overcome comes us. We all have certain phobias, things and people will fear. But honestly why do we fear? The Word tells us in Romans 8:15, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
So where does the Spirit of Fear come from. It comes from the enemy whispering in our ear, telling us to look at our circumstances instead of having Faith and trusting in God. He dupes us into thinking God will not protect us or help us-forgetting what God promised us in Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
So never be afraid of what man can to do to you....they may form weapons but they shall not prosper. But God says do not fear men say they can or will do. Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:28, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” He is telling us the only person we need to fear is God! He can destroy our soul and our body. Now him, I fear!
To overcome fear, we must put our complete tust in God. When we put our complete trust in God, we will no longer be afraid of the things and people that come against us. We will be like David in Psalm 56:11 and boldly proclaim, "In God I trust; I will not be afraid.” So let your faith in God rise above your fears.
Today I encourage you don’t be afraid. Don’t let the spirit of fear hold power of you. You can always seek the Lord when you feel afraid. Psalms 34:4 says, “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Today’s Scripture: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
