Everybody Plays The Fool: Part 2

09/25/2012 15:00
Yesterday we learned that a biblical fool does not believe in God. Today we will learn about another type of biblical fool. A person who does not have godly wisdom and does not seek after it is also considered a biblical fool.
In Proverbs 1:7, King Solomon says “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Fools hate knowledge. They don’t want to receive wisdom and they don’t want to seek after it.  In Proverbs 23:9, we are advised “not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words.”

Here are some characteristics of this type of fool:
  •  The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.”    Proverbs 15:14
  • “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.” Proverbs 18:2
  • “A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.” Proverbs 17:24
  • “The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.” Proverbs 15:2

This type of fool despises wisdom. But as Christians we know having and seeking wisdom is a necessity for our everyday lives. In Proverbs 4:7, King Solomon says "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
The word principal means first. So the Word tells us we should make getting wisdom a priority. When we wake up in the morning and say the Lord’s Prayer and ask for “our daily bread”, we are also asking for that day’s wisdom.

Today I encourage you to seek after wisdom. Remember  Proverbs 2:6 says,  “the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”  Don’t be like the fool seek the Lord and get wisdom! Stayed tuned for the rest of the series… tomorrow we will talk about the fool that trusts in his own heart and the quick tempered fool.
Today’s Scripture: "The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin." Proverbs 10:8
