A Drunk and A Christian?????

“Cause we like to party-y-y-y-y-y-y.” It’s Friday night and that’s what you and your best friends are signing in car on the way to hottest club downtown. You got your best outfits on, hair laid and ya’ll ready to party. As soon as you guys step in the club, a group of gentlemen approach ya’ll and offer to buy ya’ll some drinks. Ya’ll accept and before you know it two hours later, you guys are all drunk and at the bar taking shots. Fun times, Right?
WRONG. You ladies claim to be Christians…Women of God…..or at least that’s what your twitter profiles say. But ya’ll partying and drinking it up on Friday night and then on Sunday morning ya’ll up in the Church falling out because you caught the Holy Ghost. So what does Jesus have to say about your actions? In Matthews 6:24, he says, “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”

You can’t serve the Devil on Monday-Saturday and God on Sunday. It doesn’t work like that. And what definitely doesn’t work is Christian woman or man who are partying and dirking all the time but call themselves Women and Men of God. Romans 13:13 says, “Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.”
As Christians we cannot be out partying all the time. It is not okay, neither is it acceptable to betting getting drunk or smashed every weekend. And it is definitely not okay to be taking shots. The Word tells us in Ephesians 5:18, “Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.” It also tells us to stay away from “those who drink glass after glass of wine and mix it with everything. In Proverbs 23:30.”

When drinking excessive amounts of liquor, you are damaging your body. But what you are also doing is allowing spirits not of God to enter your body. Think about it. Why do you think they call most liquor stores “Wine and Spirits”. I can tell you right now, the Spirits they are talking about are not of God. But you claim to be but you are out partying and drinking every weekend. The irony in that.
If you call yourself a Christian but you party and get drunk all the time you need to stop. I don’t care if it is occasionally….YOU NEED TO STOP. You need to be delivered because you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  In Galatians 5:21 Paul says, “envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God."

Paul warned the people back then and I am warning the people now. Now I personally don’t believe there is nothing wrong with drinking from time to time but you should never drink with the intentions of getting drunk. And under no circumstances should you be taking shots. It is not cute, it’s not fun. It is a sin. And people have gotten seriously sick from it and as Christians- representatives of Christ-you shouldn’t be doing it. PERIOD.

Today I encourage you do a self-evaluation. If you party and get drunk all the time-you need to ask yourself who I am serving because you can’t serve two masters at the same time. If you are getting drunk and taking shots all the time you are serving the Devil and you need to stop.
For some of you, getting drunk all the time might indicate a larger problem or issue from which you need to find the root and get delivered from. I am not judging or condemning anyone. Instead I am encouraging you to stop. As men and women of God we must living a lifestyle of holiness. And partying and getting drunk is a lifestyle of sin and living in the World.
Today’s Scripture: “What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold.” Isaiah 5:22
